In a global landscape where healthcare is rapidly moving toward more personalized models based on data and technology, the integration between diagnosis and treatment is consolidating itself as one of the pillars of so called precision medicine. In Latin America, a region marked by structural challenges but also by important advances, this transformation is already beginning to gain scale.

To understand how this movement is being carried out in practice, EnergyChannel spoke with Carlos Martins, president of Roche Diagnóstica, who detailed how the company has been structuring an integrated approach between diagnostics, therapies and digital solutions.

The convergence that redefines care

According to Martins, precision medicine only becomes a reality when there is a direct connection between high quality diagnostic data and assertive therapeutic decisions.

Roche holds a unique position by operating both in diagnostics and pharmaceuticals, which allows us to understand the entire patient journey. This integration accelerates the identification of biomarkers, supports the selection of the most appropriate therapies and improves clinical monitoring, he explains.

In practice, this means that patients, especially in critical areas such as oncology, neurology and rare diseases, begin to receive more targeted treatments at the right time, significantly increasing the chances of better clinical outcomes.

This ecosystem is enhanced by digital platforms such as navify®, which connects clinical and laboratory data, transforming complex information into actionable insights for medical teams.

Early diagnosis the most critical and most challenging link

While technology advances, access remains one of the main bottlenecks in Brazil and Latin America.

Early diagnosis is one of the factors that most influence clinical outcomes and the sustainability of healthcare systems, Martins states.

Despite this, the country still faces relevant structural challenges, such as regional inequality in infrastructure, the need for technological modernization and difficulties in incorporating new technologies.

At the same time, important advances are beginning to emerge. One example mentioned is the expansion of the use of molecular tests for detecting HPV DNA, which represent a significant shift in the prevention of cervical cancer, especially when combined with population screening management software.

Sustainability and access the new model of innovation

Another central point discussed in the interview is the challenge of making innovative therapies, especially biotechnological ones, accessible in a sustainable way.

According to Martins, traditional models are no longer sufficient to keep up with the pace of innovation and new access pathways depend on a high level of collaboration between industry, the public sector, healthcare operators and the scientific community, a movement that has been gaining strength globally and is beginning to be structured more consistently in the region.

Information, media and the role of audiovisual in healthcare

In an environment saturated with information, the executive also reinforces the strategic role of quality communication in healthcare.

Evidence based information is an essential component. And audiovisual content plays a fundamental role in translating complex topics and expanding the reach of information, he says.

For him, independent initiatives with editorial responsibility such as documentaries, series and specialized journalistic content directly contribute to increasing the scientific literacy of the population, impacting decisions about prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

The future data, intelligence and personalization

Looking toward the next decade, Roche’s vision is clear healthcare will be increasingly driven by data, digital intelligence and personalization.

The great transformation lies in the convergence between diagnostics, data and digital intelligence, Martins explains.

In this context, solutions such as advanced clinical decision support algorithms, such as GAAD, and integrated data platforms are expected to expand the ability of healthcare professionals to identify at risk patients, support earlier diagnoses and personalize clinical decision making. More than developing technologies, the goal, according to him, is to leave a structural legacy.

We want to contribute to a future in which every patient has access to the correct diagnosis at the right time and to increasingly individualized clinical decisions supported by science and innovation.

A transformation underway

The interview makes it clear that precision medicine is no longer a distant promise it is already being implemented in reality, even if at different stages of evolution across Latin America.

The challenge now is not only technological but also structural to ensure that innovation, access and sustainability advance in a coordinated manner.

And in this scenario, the integration between diagnosis, treatment and data is not just a competitive advantage it is a new standard for the future of healthcare.
